Hey! I’m Shelby.

Think of me as your mom friend who just happens to know a whole lot about feeding babies. I’ve been where you are- exhausted, unsure, and Googling at 2 AM wondering if it’s supposed to feel this hard.

How can something so “natural” feel so unintuitive and clunky?

If that answer were simple, there would be no breastfeeding educators, there would be no IBCLCs. There would only be mothers who could effortlessly feed their children from their superhuman bodies. HA!

But, as we all know, it is not that simple. It is incredibly nuanced. Enter people like me, who LOVE solving the many issues that arise during one’s breastfeeding journey.

A little about me: I’m Shelby, a 30-something mom of two (6 and 3 year old) and wife of one (high school sweetheart, aww). I nursed my first baby for 22 months and my second for about 2.5 years. Not so fast, don’t you get the wrong idea- you think I’d be here if those months were simple? You think I expect you to follow all of my rules and ideas? Big time nope! I’m here because it took so much work, so much collaboration, so much commitment to my goal of making nursing work. Now I want to help you reach your breastfeeding goals too- whatever they may be. Feeding babies isn’t a one size fits all feat. However YOU want to do it, I’m here to help you make that happen.

I started working towards the goal of becoming a board-certified lactation consultant in 2022 when I started classes at the University of California at San Diego. I eventually completed my clinical hours in the summer of 2025 and sat for the exam in April of 2026. I received my certification in July of that and started Heights Lactation in August.

I also have a podcast called Supportive Breast Friend (available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify). I’ve been releasing episodes weekly since October 2025 and lemme tell you, it has been a blast to work on. I’ve gotten to speak to so many amazing moms, badass practitioners in the motherhood space, and have been able to grow my knowledge base so much through building the show. Give it a listen if you’d like to learn more about breastfeeding, the mechanics of motherhood, and the commitment that goes into being an IBCLC (Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant). If you like what you hear, welcome to the breasties (what I affectionately call the listeners).

Whatever brings you hear, know you’re not alone. Your Supportive Breast Friend is here to help. Let’s figure this out together at Heights Lactation!
